Imagine getting ready for a big night out with the girls or a day at the beach, when you look down and realise it's been a while since your last waxing session. Whoops! Perhaps you may want to consider looking into laser hair removal, a longer lasting grooming option?
In this post, we weigh up the pros and cons of diode laser hair removal and consider different lifestyles where laser may be beneficial - or actually a lot more inconvenient than scooting regularly to your salon.
About diode laser technology
There are several types of laser technology on the market, including diode, IPL and Ruby. Weena Skin Care uses diode laser technology as it is comparably safer, more comfortable and less painful for the client.
Diode laser technology sends light and heat towards hair follicles, the pigment of which absorbs the light. This causes damage to the hair follicles but leaves skin unaffected, thereby slowing hair growth and, at times, permanently preventing the hair from growing back.
Anyone considering laser treatment should be aware that this can cause temporary redness in the skin. However, this typically fades 12 to 24 hours after the procedure. Additionally, our laser equipment can be adjusted by our therapists to take sensitive skin conditions into consideration.
3 reasons to pick diode laser
It's the less painful alternative (e.g. compared to IPL).
Diode can be used on lighter coloured hair - Having fairer hair pigmentation is often a barrier to the effectiveness of other types of laser due to its lower light absorbency.
Comparatively less upfront time commitment - Laser hair removal treatment is delivered over multiple visits throughout the course of a year (often 10 visits!). The diode laser technology we use only requires 3 to 5 sessions before treatment is complete!
3 reasons diode laser may not be for you
As with other forms of laser, treatments can be quite costly. However, with improvements to technology, the cost of these treatments is gradually coming down. At Weena Skin Care, we offer laser treatments from $40 for a Brazilian session!
Laser can cause skin sensitivity. As such, it's not recommended to expose your skin to the sun and the UV rays during the treatment process until a few weeks after your final session.
If you have tanned or dark skin, there could be a higher risk of feeling some pain, as the laser is absorbed by darker pigments.
In summary, laser involves a bit of time and monetary investment early on. However, the huge reduction to hair can be well worth it!
Tip: For best results, try to plan laser treatments to start as the weather becomes cooler. That way, by the time summer arrives, you should be ready to show off your smooth skin!
